Surgery date set

Guille's surgery to repair his lip and possibly work on his palate is scheduled for June 17.

The surgeon told us that it will take approximately two hours to repair his lip. Then, depending on how he is doing with the anesthetic, they may go ahead and work on his soft palate. He will have to be on a liquid diet for 7 - 10 days, then soft food. I think that might be frustrating for him because he sure likes to eat! But, in the end it will all be worth it.

Our other option for surgery was in August. We opted for June because the speech pathologist told us the it's good that he's not speaking yet and developing bad habits due to the cleft. Well, it's time to get it done because everyday he's wanting to say something new. My baby's growing up so fast!

Gramma & Grampa came to visit

My mom & dad stopped by to visit on their way home from their trip to Texas, Kentucky, & Virginia. We had a great visit and Guille really showed them his personality. He was such a silly little boy at times, we all got quite a laugh watching him. We were all sad to see Gramma & Grampa leave this morning. We hope to see them again soon.

a busy day

Today Guille walked in the grass... without putting up a fuss! I know, that doesn't sound like much of an accomplishment, but if you've heard him wail when he gets NEAR grass, you know this IS an accomplishment.

So, while we were in the grass, I decided we would walk around the house and see what kind of fun things he could see. He loves trees! He points at them, then bends his little back so he can see waaaaaaaaaay up to the top. We sat on the front step for a while and watched cars zoom by from both directions, pointing and leaning as they went by. He giggled at some and just watched others with wide eyes. On the way back around the house we discovered that rocks in the driveway can be picked up and tossed. Cool!!

The green plastic lid for the duplos has become a "mask" for the little green monster. Guille took the lid, headed into the other room, then "sneeked" back to 'scare' me by holding the lid up to his face and saying "raaar" (his version). The only thing is, when he would get a few feet from me, he would giggle and squeal with delight just thinking about my reaction.

Then we took the cushions off the couch (so he wouldn't hurt himself if he fell off while being silly) and did summersaults and bounces, lots of climbing up and down. He was a very active little boy today and was ready for bed by 8:00! Of course he cried for a minute when I put him in his crib, not willing to give in to the sleep that was plaguing him. But, he quickly settled in and is sleeping peacefully, getting loads more energy for tomorrow's adventures.

Have I mentioned that I LOVE MY BOY??!! Well, I DO! (Yesterday while he was playing on the deck and being so adorable, I got tickled and blessed and just started crying as I watched him and considered the incredible gift that he is to his daddy and me. We are truly blessed to have this little guy in our lives!)

(No pictures today. Guillermo had the camera at the observatory where they are reinstalling the telescope that he has been "patiently" waiting for for nearly a year. He's ready to try it out! )

One week - Three countries - Five States ... must be my child!

We've got quite the little traveler! In one week he has been in three countries and has been to five states since arriving in the US. I'm so glad he likes his carseat! This weekend we made a trip to Kentucky for my nephew's wedding. It's a 6 1/2 hour drive without stops and we made the trip in a little over 7 1/2 hours. He played, made silly noises, watched the cars, likes the big trucks, and slept. He met almost all of his cousins, aunts and uncles on my side of the family. He did very well with all the people around. When we arrived home he saw his toys and got the biggest grin on his little face. I wish I had a picture of that, but he knows where home is and is happy to be here.

Getting the hang of how a truck works

Hey, I'm over here!

My baby graduated to a sippy cup today!  

It was HIS idea!  He decided he didn't want the bottle, so we tried

the sippy cup.  And he likes to do it all by himself.

Yesterday the cleft team said he needed to be using a sippy cup before his 

surgery because it doesn't go as far into his mouth as a bottle.  So, 

it's a good thing that he wants to use the sippy cup.
