After leaving the DC area, we headed down to Fredericksburg, VA.
We met Gramma, Grampa & my cousin Annie for lunch and a tour of the area.

I was hungry, as usual, and Gramma let me help her eat her food.
YUMMY!

Then we headed out to Chatham Manor.
Annie is doing an internship this summer with the
National Park Service.
She's quite the tour guide!

This tree is called a "witness tree".
It was there during the Civil War,
just outside the window of Chatham Manor
where surgeries were done on wounded soldiers.

Now THAT's a big gun!

Chatham Manor is quite a lovely house.
I could live there... if I had to.

"Welcome to my house"

"Come on in."

"Oh, I hate when the door closes on me like that."

OK, enough imagining.
On with the tour.

But first, a stop at the drinking fountain.

This Episcopal church was used during the war
as a place to care for wounded soldiers.

While Mama, Gramma & Annie looked around inside the church,
Grampa, Dadda and I kept watch outside.

On with the tour...
We drove out to "Slaughterhouse Farm" and heard the history of a battle that took place in the field behind me.
I found a great walking stick...
the only problem with it was...
it was a bit too short.
I had a great time exploring.

Naptime was a welcome event that day!

After I woke up, we continued on to see some
earthworks that were used during the Civil War
and some cannons, too.

Then on over to Chancellorsville for a presentation
on the "Red Badge of Courage".
The next morning we said goodbye to Gramma & Grampa and headed for home.

I had a lot of fun on this trip, but it sure was good to see my house!
Home, Sweet Home!
