So much has happened in the past two weeks.
Let me give you the rundown.
Isaac's surgery went well, though they won't know
if they got the problem fixed until they do another test
in about 5 more weeks.
He's finally over most of his "ouchies" and is acting like himself.
He's a bundle of energy!!
Jennai is getting used to wearing her "sock".
She doesn't like to get it put on, but once it is on
she doesn't have any problem and goes about her business
as if the sock weren't even there.
Oh, what cute children!!
Yesterday was "fitting day" for Jennai's prostheses.
They measured, cut, drilled holes, tried them on,
measured, cut, drilled more holes, tried them on again,
marked things here and there, and then.......
stood her up!
Here you can kind of see the screw/peg
that attaches to her "sock". The prostheses
attach to that peg.
They had her stand against the mirror
to see how she would do.
After getting things adjusted we decided to see if she
wanted to go for a walk. I held her under her armpits
and we "walked" like we do at home.
The prosthetics people had me walk in front of her,
and had her walk to me... with them holding her.
When we got to the doorway, I stopped, she stopped,
they let go of her....
AND SHE STOOD ALL BY HERSELF!!
It was only for a couple of seconds,
but she did it!!
This mama cried!!
And the lady doing the fitting had tears in her eyes!
She said, "I think we got it! This girl is going to go!"
We didn't get the picture of her standing by herself
that first time, and she wasn't to thrilled to do it again,
but here she is!
They had an arm and hand that they had been working on for her,
but her arm is so little that the 'sock' they had for her arm didn't fit right.
She was wearing the arm and while they were out of the room making adjustments to the legs suddenly Jennai piped out an "uh,oh!" as she was holding the prosthetic arm in her other arm.
It had fallen off! So, they'll work on that some more and maybe get that in April too.
We go back in early April to get the 'real legs' and have three days of intense physical and occupational therapy, adjustments to the prostheses, and doctor appointments.
The goal: Get this girl up and going.
I think she's going to do it!! Don't you??
